90 Minute Shows
during Contemporary Istanbul 2014
As always, Liu Dao continued to spice up the month of November in 2014. As you well know, we participated in Contemporary Istanbul from the 13th to the 16th, but that’s not all we had in store. We proudly joined nineteen other renowned artists and galleries in 90 Minute Shows,a new feature of the already groundbreaking Contemporary Istanbul. The experimental platform ran the length of CI, but displayed to the public a rotating bevy of single artwork shows every 90 minutes. Curated by Dr. Marcus Graf, the Fair’s Program Director, the show sought to dynamically transform the shipping container-like space of 50 square meters to a highly conceptual, albeit brief, arena of oscillating artistic visions.
For our 90 minute spotlight the collective showcased a new piece made specifically for this extraordinary new concept: Nigh Tea. This piece depicts an intricately painted Chinese teapot with LED-animated liquid continually pouring out of the spout. As a multi-faceted nod to the show’s theme, we shaped the teapot to look like the number 90, constructed the piece to a precise 90 by 90 cm, and obviously there is that title as well. Come see for yourself because it won’t last long… 90 minutes to be exact. Nigh Tea was displayed on November 14th from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m.
