BLURB

People like to watch other people for all sorts of reasons. Aside from the common accusation of perverse voyeurism, there are plenty of motives behind it: preventing and punishing crime, predicting traffic and crowd behavior, providing some sense of security and protection to the public. It’s hard to get exact numbers, but according to IHS analytics and securities, 254 million security cameras were installed globally in the year 2014 alone (65% of which were in Asia). Of course you can add to the discussion all of the supposedly monitored communications through phone and emails, as well as good old-fashioned spying on people and following them around. This adds up to a seismic shift in the amount of privacy a normal person can expect. We are living in an era where you have to assume someone can see you most of the time. So smile wide, lift your chin up high and do something worthy of watching from any distance. [Ryan Nimmo]
