Jean Le Guyader
Jean le Guyader (b. Paris) is the director of island6 Shanghai.
Holding a Bachelor's degree in law from Université Paris XI, France, he wrote his first thesis on the Rule of Law in Chinese Contemporary Art. He has also previously earned a Diploma from University of Monash, Firenze, Italy in Transnational Art Law and Art History, as well as a Diploma in Economic and Chinese Law from Shanghai Normal University.
Jean maintains constant, direct involvement with the production of all island6 artworks ever since he originally joined the collective in 2009. In addition, as a knowledgeable art historian he directs information and assistance to all patrons. In 2010, Jean completed his Masters degree in Law of innovation, culture and communication at Paris XI University. After a successful year in Paris working at 'Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin', the 'Musée du Quai Branly' and the 'Centre des Monuments Nationaux', Jean has returned to Shanghai in 2012 to work full-time with Liu Dao, where he has continued to aid the group’s success and expansion in international presence. In addition to working on sales, he also acts as head consultant of all legal priorities, including International Communications and Client Relations, Tax Translation and European Coordination departments.
As an art collector himself, with extensive experience in filmmaking and literature, Jean’s broad, multicultural intellect is a consistent source of creative direction for the collective spirit of in-house art collective, Liu Dao. Leaning toward the physical, ethereal and visual aspects of classical Oriental imagery, Jean often invents an audio and visual language invoking laughter and revulsion at the same time. In addition to acting as Director of island6 Shanghai, Jean coordinates scenography for Liu Dao’s myriad exhibitions.
