The first of two island6 artworks giving new embodiment to the term “ideological seduction”, "Big Sister" shows an extreme close-up of the bewitching eyes of model Yeung Sin Ching 杨倩菁 in a panoramic stainless steel frame. The gigantic, female eyes of "Big Sister" are wonderful but overwhelmingly horrific in an Orwellian sense, as they watch the world through a rice paper collage reminiscent of the homemade wallpaper found in Chinese homes throughout the 1970s and 1980s, made from newspapers of the day. At 20cm tall, her eyes flicker and scrutinize, blink lavishly, and bring viewers under her gaze willingly, as the piercing pupils and irises survey the world like CCTV cameras, or omnipresent networks of domestic intelligence agencies, all the while seducing the viewer with their natural and simultaneously digital beauty.
