“Doesn't my body drive you wild with desire?” – Cabaret (1972)

Originally an LED animation, the mosaic-like structure of this Still Up Until Dawn pieces together to reproduce a personage taken straight out of the shady cabaret, lit by dimmed lights, a smoky environment of lust and vainglory. It chronicles the longing of the urban animal searching for meaning in life by turning to the dizzying distractions of raucous nightclubs. Imagine yourself sunk in a heavy satin chair, with a glass of whisky served in an on-the-rocks glass, a Cuban cigar in your hand. Picture the dancer, moving slowly up and down, stirring left and right. She trips; she’s clearly drunk. Admire this room of depravity: the gateway to Satan’s hell. Here is captured a fantasy that becomes reality when dance meets contemporary art, and creative minds meet alcoholic substances. [Jack Mur]
