BLURB

Jazz standards have a long history, like clothes in a wardrobe. You feel like they are old and you put them away. Then, a few years later, you take them out, dust them off, and they seem surprisingly new. This has happened to “My Favorite Things,” as well. Written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, the song was originally part of the musical “The Sound of Music.” Taken from the Broadway play, the song became world-famous as sung by Julie Andrews on screen. But it soon became a classic when jazz saxophonist John Coltrane covered it. Since then, millions of jazz musicians have performed it all over the world from Al Jarreau to Joey Alexander. “My Favorite Things” became a favorite thing of a great deal of people. With each new rendition, we discover more and more of its hidden qualities. It can be the same with each of your own favorite things. But who is ever going to recycle those? [Andras Gal]
