I have many “baobeis”. My babies. These are the newest ones. I take them from their villages and put them here. OK, just kidding. My most precious things on Earth are actually these huuuge buildings. You don’t even need a single brick to build one. Look. One splash of concrete and it’s done. You need more soy sauce on floor 19? Don’t you worry. Just shout down to your mother downstairs for more. She’ll hear you for sure. Call me infantile or whatever. But let’s not kid each other. Housing in China is nothing to joke about. This market basically didn’t exist until 1978, but it really started booming after 2011. New lifestyle and different needs resulted in a rapid urbanization that we all know the fruits of: expanding and merging cities with new buildings springing up day by day. Sometimes I sit here for a couple-of-year-long afternoon and just watch the landscape changing in front of my eyes. A new block a day keeps the doctor away. Only their prices rise higher than the buildings themselves. I donno… blame me? [András Gál]
