"Ooh La La!" in Hong Kong
The island6 art collective (六岛) revives the fun and glamour of this year's Ooh La La! in a special Hong Kong sequel. Glittering LEDs, hyper-real video art and naughty interactive video are lovingly arrayed around the ethereal white space of studio rouge, long-time friend and collaborator of island6. Ooh La La in Hong Kong will be the electronic art collective's first solo show with studio rouge Hong Kong.
Like its sultry Shanghai sister, Ooh La La in Hong Kong continues Liu Dao's desire to narrate our life stories by infusing the robotic bleep of circuitry, diodes and computer interfaces with the warmth of sensory experiences. Within the monotonous pixels of an LED panel, the sensuality of a trailing hand on bare skin glows with humanity.
The island6 artists present a fresh series of multimedia artworks in their signature style of cheeky irreverence that comments on facets of urban life in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Beneath the “Ooh la la!” surprise of island6's digital creations is a tenderness and passion that pushes away the isolating heart of darkness in modern life.
