"Remains Of Future" (未来的遗迹)
"Remains Of Future" by island6 Art Collective
// BLURB //
Whether graffiti is art or vandalism at the moment of creation doesn’t really matter once the paintings become ones with the context they were conceived in. Be they meticulously painted murals by educated artists or tags from bored kids hungry for adrenalin, they are not meant to last forever, yet if they survive the battles with the authorities, the citizens and other street artists, they finally become historical documents or… master pieces. It’s sort of awkward for the creators themselves. Once the paint is on the wall and the painter leaves the stage, it depends on this unpredictable situation whether the painting becomes an artwork. It depends on the memories attached to them by members of the local community and whether anything else has remained of the scribbles it’s surrounded by. Maybe a stenciled painting is covered by a billboard or posters for decades and once it is accidentally revealed, people just stare at it, because it feels like they travelled back in time. And this is what they want to preserve.
