SLICK PARIS 2013
island6 is very excited to be making our debut at the SLICK Paris art fair from the 24th to the 27th of October this year. Our return to 'la ville lumière', where many of our devoted islanders have once called home, will mark our 1st return to the cities illustrious fair scene since we were presented with Galerie Loft and Galerie twenty-one at Art Paris in 2009.
SLICK Paris 2013, marks the 8th edition of the Paris based fair that aims to bring together a selection of younger galleries and current trailblazers in addition with more established galleries that have been selected for the vivacity of their exploration. Founder Johan Tamer-Morael chose the name 'Slick' to represent the emergence of something that constantly rises onto the surface, citing the use of the English word as their intention to reach an international audience with works that resonate far-beyond the Franco-French artistic community. This year the fair will host over 50 galleries and welcome over 17,000 visitors on the banks of the Seine, 50 meters from the Grand Palais.
The selection for SLICK 2013 includes large-scale projects tailor-made for SLICK by the galleries and artists as monumental works throughout the fair. The mixture of private collections and acquisitions will showcase the work of not only corporate collectors but also solo shows proposed by galleries and individual artists reinforcing the fairs unique identity by focusing not only on the art scenes of Europe, but also on the creativity coming out of other worldly regions such as Africa, the Middle East, and of course Asia.
The vast artistic, cultural heritage, history and character of Paris as well as the curatorial mission of Slick in mixing young galleries with established art players, is something that the Liu Dao collective draws considerable creative inspiration from. Our artistic mission is one that recalls the history and art forms of a China past, while looking head on into its technology driven future. Constantly combining traditional Chinese art forms such as Jian Zhi paper cuts, Shan Shui paintings, Ming Dynasty vases and ancient Chinese philosophy with modern LED's, RGB's, CCTV technology, sculpture, photography and painting, Liu Dao is sure that our techno-dreamy artwork will find a comfortable and appreciated home amidst the art savants and lovers attending this year's SLICK Paris.
