Liu Dao in SURGE Shanghai
SURGE Shanghai art fair showcased some of Liu Dao’s artworks along with other contemporary artists from all over China. The fair took place on the 20th and 21st of October from 10:00am to 8:00pm in the River South Art Center, 1247 Nan SuZhou Road (near Xinzhao Road). Aimed at encouraging young collectors and art lovers who would otherwise be intimidated by high gallery prices, Surge capped the prices of artworks at RMB30,000. Since Liu Dao's prices are above SURGE’s limit, the collective offered to donate any profits exceeding the limit to Prevention Through Education (PTE). PTE is a non-profit organization in China that promotes awareness to prevent the stigmatization of people with HIV/AIDS. It is a great organization that helps the local community and Liu Dao is proud to be a supporter.
This year, SURGE displayed seven of Liu Dao’s artworks including: “Big Fine”, “Red Comrades at Dawn” and “The Self-Moving Car”. These artworks varied from contemporary LED display to vintage Photography and were showcased in a separate section that SURGE has created specifically for Liu Dao’s pieces. Liu Dao is very appreciative of such support and generosity from the SURGE organisers!
