Sydney Contemporary 2013
CHINA ART PROJECTS + VISUAL ARTS PROJECTS + ISLAND6

The island6 art collective headed back down under and returned to Sydney in September 2013 to participate in Sydney's first Contemporary Art fair, Sydney Contemporary 2013.
Sydney is surfacing as a dynamic cultural destination with an international reputation for presenting the very best in visual art through its public institutions, private collections, leading commercial galleries, and world renowned Biennale. Now Sydney brings you an art fair which showcases the work of emerging and established artists from leading Australian and international galleries.

Liu Dao are no stranger to Oz, having participated in the White Rabbit Collection's Big Bang Exhibition (via Red Gate Gallery) and we were pleased to see island6 heading back over to Australia, courtesy of China Arts Project, to enchant fair goers with corporeal effigies brought to life through technological savvy and video magic.

China Arts Project was established in 2008 to bring together the artistic merits of Australia, China and England. Their cross cultural, exchange platform showcases artists' work across the continents and their international spirit of co-operation is a frequency that we channel into frequently at island6. So we were quite grateful to have such an ideal representative showcasing the work of our beloved Liu Dao.

The inaugural exhibition of Sydney Contemporary 2013 took place at the Carriageworks arts hub from September 19th to the 22nd. Located in an old 19th century railway workshop in Eveleigh, this unique location played host for over 80 leading Australian and international galleries and welcomed over 28,810 visitors over its four day span.
Liu Dao’s very own Thomas Charvériat was invited to speak in “Talk Contemporary”, the fairs popular panel discussion presented by The Financial Review. The program dealt with topics that explored issues engaging both collectors and enthusiasts from fashion and art, international art collecting to architecture, film and fine cuisine. Joining our island6 mastermind on stage included fair director Barry Keldoulis, actress Rachel Griffiths (of Blow fame), chef Kylie Kwong, artist Ben Quilty and architect Nick Tobias.

We are also pleased to announce that whilst attending the fair, island6 and the Liu Dao collective also acquired our first Sydney gallery representation through the esteemed Conny Dietzschold Gallery. Stay tuned for news about our upcoming solo exhibition in Sydney.
