BLURB

This too shall pass was the famous phrase given in response to this inquiry: what could you say to make a sad man happy and a happy man sad? Sic transit gloria mundi is another similar saying, a Latin phrase translating to "Thus passes the glory of the world." The much more morose saying in this vein of transiency is Memento mori, the Medieval Latin phrase bluntly stating “remember that you have to die.” Every era and culture has it’s own stamp it puts on this same thought; that things change. Things are built and then destroyed, things begin as others end and the cycle goes on and on ad infinitum. Change can be a beautiful and liberating process, but there will always be those who are terrified of it. The phobia of change even has a name: Metathesiophobia. Fear of change actually has strong evolutionary roots, humans are wired to have reliable routines and habits, because of this, too much unpredictability can trigger the fight or flight response in a person. Everyone deals with change and learns to accept it in their own way, so the next time you have the up down blues just remember the famous quip by Ben Franklin: when you are finished changing, you are finished.
