ISLAND6 SH GARDEN
Inside the towering metropolis of Shanghai is an oasis buried in the heart of Moganshan Lu…
As a complement to the flagship gallery in M50, island6 opened an intimate, light-filled outpost in the ground floor of building seven. When it opened its doors in April of 2013, the island6 ShGarden quickly became one of the most dynamic spaces in the island6 family.
“The Garden” was a concept grown organically from its luscious courtyard location and the fertile creative minds of Liu Dao. This creative space and garden sanctuary asks its visitors to ponder the ideologies behind all the opposing forces that drive Shanghai. And likewise, the balance between organic and contemporary embodied by the artworks exhibited there. Primarily: Nature vs. Technology, is it possible to have the two side by side? Well as a technologically inspired artist collective who draws much of their influence from nature, we think so.
Whilst all the cogs of the city kept pumping, and the masses scurried about amongst the feet of skyscrapers, no one noticed the breathing of the green bushes in the corner… Ready to reclaim what was once theirs…
