The Lunar New Year has come upon us, and as fond appreciators of not just Chinese art, but also its culture and heritage, we at island6 have decided to commemorate, celebrate and also reflect upon the year gone by. And what a year it's been!
Artists, curators and art directors are people who deal primarily with the visual, and so our retrospection takes form of a video pieced together with footage collected from the key events of 2010. Still, we would like to say a few words about this video, which was a labor of love put together by the artists and gallerists of island6.
Our retrospective video captures not just the grand exciting events the arts center has experienced, but also the small day-to-day matters and things we do that go into making us who we are. So yes – while you will find snippets of our glam openings and crazy parties, our montage also showcases the shooting process of our LED art-making, the post-production and assembly of our works, the hardworking staff bustling about their daily tasks and, very importantly, the major evolution of our gallery space. Also, you get to do some armchair traveling as we've included footage of our successful packed-out opening show "Plugged In", in Manhattan NYC!
The process of making this video has left us with one significant revelation – which is that none of this would have been possible without the faith, generosity and support of our fans and friends. Therefore, this retrospection is also dedicated to all of you who have believed in us and been behind us, not just in 2010 but many years prior as well. Please enjoy reliving the amazing journey of the past year with island6, and look forward to a 2011 that will be even bigger, better and more fabulous. [Loo Ching Ling 吕晶琳]
