"Uchiura Bay Monster" (内浦湾怪宝)

// BLURB //
They say the water remembers. And in the stillness of Uchiura Bay, where mist meets the sea like breath on a vase, something ancient stirs. Not a rumor, not a fisherman’s tall tale, but a presence. Vast. Elusive. A creature with arms like drifting shadows, and eyes that hold the weight of centuries. A leviathan that moves with the grace of inevitability, neither cruel nor kind, only abiding.

I saw it once, descending slowly through the silence, its form unfurling like an ink stroke across the ocean’s scroll. It did not chase me. It simply was. And in that moment, the water spoke not in words, but in balance: softness overcomes hardness; yielding prevails over force.
It called to mind the story of Yu the Great (大禹), who tamed the floods not by building walls, but by opening paths, by flowing with the current, not against it. This was no monster, but a lesson veiled in salt and shadow. A reminder that the unknown is not always to be conquered. Sometimes, it is to be understood, or simply left undisturbed.
Now, when I dive, I do so with reverence. Not seeking answers. Only the silence that waits in the deep.
