"Beryllium Bionic Bears" (铍仿生熊)
"Beryllium Bionic Bears" by island6 Art Collective (Liu Dao)
// BLURB //
In the late 24th century, bears began to obsess over improving their physique. In an attempt to out do his fellow bear-folk, one pioneering ursine attempted to surgically remove and replace his own claws with metal ones. It was a failure. He lost the use of his paws for life. Despite his lack of success, his attempt paved the way for other metallic bear body modifications. The trend progressed throughout the 25th century involving increasingly complex surgeries and implants. Bears were slowly becoming more metal than flesh. At some point, the community-wide vision of body improvement was lost. A new obsession washed over the bear world. It was a competition to see who could become the most metallic. Eventually, internal organs and bones were swapped for functioning metal replications. In the year 2473, a full body beryllium replacement was attempted. The bear became entirely metal. Although absent of life, he was considered the world’s most perfect ursine. This trend continued until eventually all bears became metal 'replicants'. It is unknown how the last surgery was performed.
