"Blue Monroe" (蓝梦露)
"Blue Monroe" by island6 Art Collective
// BLURB //
This is one of the most famous scenes of cinema history. Marilyn Monroe steps atop the subway grates and lets her skirt flip over so we can see it all…  The scene was part of Billy Wilder’s movie The Seven Year Itch. As the filming location “leaked out” thousands of men gathered around to stare and wait if it would happen. Well, they believed it did, but Marilyn made sure nobody would be able to take a peek and wore two layers of thick underwear. Too bad her panties are not sold for millions at auctions like her iconic dress was, for these were more symbolic to her phenomenon than anything else. Who was she after all? A brown-haired girl who we would never recognize on the street. She never became a superstar and was forgotten when she dyed her hair blond. In fact, she created the superstar, layers upon layers, the model, the pin-up girl, the sex object until only “The Girl” remained, as she was called in the movie. Isn’t she the same as we are, trying to find ourselves along the journey, but when we meet in the mirror (a kind of time-travel, indeed) all we see is the girl with the blue wig?
