"Clean Break" (决裂)
// BLURB //
On the couch my therapist always asks, peering at me inquisitively over the edge of his horn-rimmed glasses, 'Why do you clean so obsessively?' Every vase, every oddly-shaped curio, every knob at the end of a staircase, every fluted silver candlestick is a monument to my OCD. In my waking hours I always imagine myself cleaning. To bring on the necessity of sleep I dream of a cabinet full of trinkets and the beaten family silver instead of vaulting sheep. I have heard of people who orgasm spontaneously from the accidental touch of stranger in an elevator. Well, I derive something of the same kind of carnal pleasure from handling a porcelain plate or a deeply engraved salver and then stripping it back, stroke by loving stroke, to spotless, newly-minted perfection.
