"Cream Of Tomato" (奶油番茄)
"Cream Of Tomato" by island6 Art Collective (Liu Dao)
// BLURB //
As she sat by the window, the aroma of spicy broth wafted through the air, triggering a flood of memories; she remembered the way spices had danced on her tongue. Her mind wandered back to Shanghai bustling streets filled with the chatter of vendors and the sizzle of hot pots. She remembered the first time she tasted “Malatang” (麻辣烫), the spicy tangy soup that warmed her heart and ignited her taste buds; One spoonful was all it took to convert her. Each sip was a journey back to those lively nights, surrounded by friends, laughter, and the comforting heat of her favorite dish.
In Daoism, remembering the past fondly can be seen as a way to align oneself with the natural flow of life, recognizing that the past has shaped who we are but also understanding that we should not cling to it too tightly. Instead, we should embrace change and impermanence, finding balance between remembering the past and living in the present moment. Who knows, in the future we might even find canned Malatang, ready to purchase at any convenience store near you!
