"Fair Taxi Fare" (合理的出租车费)
"Fair Taxi Fare" by island6 Art Collective (Liu Dao)
// BLURB //
According to English writer John Lyly’s 1578 didactic romance Euphues: The Anatomy of Wit, all is fair in love and war. His thinking basically offers you a pass to disregard gentlemanly rules of engagement and adopt ruthless measures to get where you need to be in life. Getting from A to B in any city at the best of times can be challenging, but when everything goes against you it’s even worse. If only you’d have left the house a few minutes early or later, that inconsiderate so-and-so wouldn’t have trodden on your fresh white sneakers. If only you’d have taken that shortcut, you wouldn’t have hit these roadworks in rush hour. Why didn’t you just go to the supermarket yesterday after work rather than leaving it for a Saturday morning? Questions we all ask ourselves again and again. But there is hope in this concrete jungle. The good old-fashioned taxi cab has been saving our skins for years. The sanctuary of the back seat of a car has never felt so good even in an age where apps, e-bikes and digital maps rule. Nothing beats the sense of direction and reliability of a set of local hands at the wheel. Wherever you’re going, you might need to cut a few corners to get there. Lyly’s knew it, the guy steering your next taxi knows it and now it’s up to you to find the drive to win by any means necessary. Fare’s fair, after all.
