And I love you as I love the dance that brings you out of the multitude in which you come and go. -Wendell Berry
The dance was magnetic. An exuberant display of colorful feathers, fancy footwear, and gorgeous colors resulting in quite the engaging courtship. In Central American forests, the male Red-capped Manakin puts on a grand show all to catch the eye of a female with exceptionally high standards. Perched on branches, these red feathered birds shuffle and twist rapidly, forwards and backwards across trees, akin to a speedy moonwalk. It may seem like an unusual courting method and yet female birds succumb to the sensual ritual.
I wonder what would be the human version of a mating dance. At first glance, a vibrant color appears necessary (after all humans tend to be quite distracted creatures!). Intricate arm movements, charming twists, and of course jumps for an enticing call sure to woo partners alike!
On second thought, love is complicated as is without asking someone to jump through hoops to get to me.
