"Laundry Line Legato" (洗衣线奏法)
"Laundry Line Legato" by island6 Art Collective (Liu Dao)
// BLURB //
See how the funambulist moves gracefully with one foot in front of the other like the low, steady tones of a tuba playing without worries. Hear the wind rustle the clothes and plastic bags, and look at how they flow in the wind like jellyfish or maybe octopuses. Smell the delicious stinky tofu and fresh-cut flowers and the garbage juice and all the other classic smells of the city, and try your hardest to parse them. They say you should try to understand history through your nose; your eyes; your stomach; your ears. What changes when we decide to cast off the burden of intellect and instead choose to empathetically look back at who our forefathers were, what they experienced, and how? Considering history from an existential perspective is a slippery slope, one that ought not be done lightly or without careful thinking about what to do with the information you uncover. What it may lead to is greater awareness of your own experiences, sights, and smells. To think of your own history through your nose is to invite powerful nostalgia and hidden memories. It is to invite a deeply-rooted sense of self to burst forth. It is to invite balance.
