Look closely around you and what do you see? In one way or another we are all connected as if by an invisible thread, the thread of fate. Yuanfen (缘分) or “Fateful Coincidence” is the concept describing destiny, or in other words the driving forces behind everything that happens in life. Psychologist Carl Jung has a similar term for this phenomenon, Synchronicity, or meaningful coincidences. If you focus your attention these events will become more noticeable until being impossible to ignore. While this may have serious repercussions for the concept of free will, the sooner you can come to terms with this reality, the sooner you’ll be able to live authentically. Protagonist, Meursault, in the French novel L'Étranger (The Stranger), is only able to accept his fate after realizing he is just a constituent part of existence. Therefore, fate is real, there’s meaning and purpose behind every coincidence, and we are all linked through stories or experiences. Come what may I now realize we are all cut from the same piece of paper.
