"Peekaboo" (躲猫猫)
"Peekaboo" by island6 Art Collective (Liu Dao)
// BLURB //
I was in Casablanca, walking on the beach for hours and hours when I saw that little girl. It was dry, hot and there was music in the air. I decided to have a coke and entered a restaurant. She was lying on the floor at the back of the terrace. The sun was burning her skin as though she was lying in the middle of the desert. Far from the tables, completely abandoned, yet there was a radiant smile on her face. She was chuckling sometimes. She covered her eyes with her hands. Who was she playing peekaboo with? No one was there except for me, not even a bartender. What could have she been thinking about? What do little girls dream about? I had never known any. Her parents must have gone inside to look for the waiter. Maybe she dreams about winter, I thought. Maybe it’s a boy in navy striped shirt. A dog. She seemed happy. She was happy. I closed my eyes to see if I could do the same. When I looked back, she was gone as if she had never been there at all.
