"Serpentine Creature" (蜿蜒蝴蝶)
"Serpentine Creature" by island6 Art Collective (Liu Dao)
// BLURB //
In many cultures around the world, butterflies are seen as a symbol of change, renewal, and hope, as they transform from caterpillars to beautiful, winged creatures. As stated by French chemist Lavoisier, "In nature nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything changes." There is no beginning and ending. There’s no middle. Everything is happening right now, simultaneously. One theory about non-linear time is the concept of "block time" or "block universe." According to this theory, the past, present, and future all exist at once, and time is simply a human construct to help us understand the sequence of events. Time is in fact an illusion, and the universe can be thought of as a four-dimensional block, with each moment in time existing as a slice in the block. Our human subjective experiences decide which direction to perceive the flow of time. This theory challenges the conventional view of time as a linear progression and suggests that it is not a fundamental aspect of the universe, but rather a human invention. Like a winding dragon of time, the past and future twists and turns, looping back on itself, but always moving forward, never losing its grip on the present.
