"Steaming Hot" (热气腾腾)
// BLURB //
Life is like a bowl of noodles. Sometimes it's delicious, sometimes it gets boring, you can never be sure of its origin and you never know how long it will be. But what did people do before 1958 when Momofuku Ando invented the instant noodles? What did college students eat? We might also ask: what’s common between a Western twenty-something and an old Chinese farmer? The answer points back to the initial question. It is one of the infinite loops in life that is essential to the human experience. Noodles. Dip your chopsticks deep into the soup and feel the thousands of years that were kneaded into the dough by every movement repeated millions of times. Pulled straight, twisted quickly, waved strongly, cooked gently. Whenever a bowl of simple noodles is consumed, one sips in all this along with the noodle threads, digests it and makes it their own. Just like when you eat lamian in China, ramen in Japan or pho in Vietnam, in life the original idea (the original sin) is the same. Only everybody has their own variation on it.
