"All Quiet, No Chance"
// BLURB //
Do you hear them? The cries of voices needing Christ and the rest? We liberators of the 20th century globally inferior beg for your begging, and will gladly force our gladness upon you. It is our duty. There are trumpets blaring beyond the hill, and the timeless march of progress continues. We move forward with the for— a baby’s whimpers bring me back out of that world where I am a God, where I am good and good enough, and back to a rainy Shanghai. I walk over and pick the child up and rock it gently as a headache starts to form in the bottom-back of my skull. I can hear my mother’s voice now. Don’t have children, they make you old and poor she said over the top of her glasses and through the thick smoke coming out of her mouth. Yeah, well fuck you mom. Fatherhood isn’t so bad. It’s much better than childhood, that’s for sure. The child falls asleep in my arms, and I gently lay it down so I can get back to work—…with the force of the mighty war machine at our backs, and God on our side.
