I’m quite fascinated by the weather and the stories we used to tell about the gods that controlled the elements. Long before modern science, we had myths and legends, we created our own tales to explain natural phenomena. Fantasy fables and folklore of giants spilling water and benevolent gods clapping as loud as thunder. My favorite love story is how the sun loved the moon so much, he died every night to let her breathe. It’s a Native American myth, although there are many variations. The sun consumed all light and warmth, causing the moon to struggle to breathe. Realizing his love for the moon, the sun decided to set every night to allow the moon to rise and take in the light, breathing new life into the world. And thus, our ancestors had an explanation for the sun's rising and setting every day. I believe it’s much more poetic this way. In Norse mythology, raindrops were a precious offering from the deity of the earth, Jörð. Her tears, a testament to the bond between the underworld and the earthly realm, brought forth fertility, nurturing growth, and spreading abundance. A symbol of the delicate balance between the seen and the unseen, these drops embodied the immense power of the natural forces in the cosmos. Personally, I find that rain is an opportunity to hide under a colorful umbrella with a friend. I believe it’s much more fun this way, don’t you think?
